We got tired of ghost listings
Wilpum Investments Ltd started because finding somewhere to live in Nairobi had become an exercise in filtering out lies. Listings for flats already taken. Photographs of a different building. A rent figure that grew by a third once you were standing in the doorway.
None of that is a technology problem, exactly. It is an incentive problem. So we built a marketplace where a listing has to be evidenced before anyone can see it, where the person you message is the person with the keys, and where every fee is on the page before you spend a Saturday travelling to a viewing.
Four things we will not trade away
Integrity
One public record of every listing. What a guest sees is what a signed-in tenant sees is what the landlord sees.
Verification
Evidence before visibility. We would rather have a smaller catalogue than a catalogue you cannot trust.
Directness
No intermediary inserted into a conversation that does not need one, and no fee for an introduction.
Care
A home is not a transaction to the person moving into it. The product is built as though that matters.
What happens behind a listing
Documents checked
Ownership or management rights are evidenced and matched to a verified identity before a listing can go live.
Listing reviewed
Photographs, pricing and amenities go through a moderation queue. Decisions carry the name of whoever made them.
Kept current
Landlords confirm availability regularly. A listing that goes stale drops out of search rather than wasting your weekend.
